As of Sept. 1, HealthSelect of Texas and HealthSelect Out-of-State plan participants pay a higher copay when they receive care at a non-network freestanding ER. Please note: This change does not apply to Medicare Advantage or HMO plan participants.

Lowering the assumed rate of return will not affect current annuity checks. The effects of lowering the return rate will be felt years down the road and depend on how the Legislature addresses the fund’s unfunded liability.

At its Aug. 23 meeting, the ERS Board of Trustees adopted Plan Year 2018 premium rates for Medicare-eligible retirees. The State will continue covering 100 percent of the retiree’s premium and 50 percent of the spousal premium.

Congratulations to Catherine Melvin, the newest member of the ERS Board of Trustees. Melvin, who serves as chief auditor at the Department of Public Safety, received 35 percent of the total vote and won the election by nearly 2,300 votes.
